Founded in 1931, Le 9e is located on the ninth floor of the former Eaton\u2019s department store in downtown Montreal. It is considered one of the most remarkable Art Deco interior spaces in the world. In 1999, Quebec\u2019s Ministry of Culture designated it a heritage site, thereby protecting its historic interior.<\/p>

The restaurant was designed by the famous French architect Jacques Carlu, also known for the Palais de Chaillot in Paris. Its layout was inspired by Lady Flora Eaton\u2019s 1920s voyage aboard the \u00cele-de-France, the French Line\u2019s most beautiful ship.<\/p>

Le 9e is inspired by the ship\u2019s first-class dining room. The restaurant opened its doors in 1931 and quickly became a must-visit dining and social destination in Montreal. The space features Streamline Moderne influences, with its curved forms, 30-foot murals painted by Natasha Carlu, bas-reliefs, and furniture evoking the luxury of early 20th-century travel. It also hosted fashion shows and cultural events for 70 years.<\/p>

Le 9e closed its doors in 1999, finally reopening 25 years later in 2024 after extensive restoration work.<\/p>

Today, it once again serves as a space where culture and elegance meet, while having preserved its original design, offering Montrealers and visitors the chance to discover one of the world\u2019s most beautiful Art Deco interiors.<\/p>

The restaurant at Le 9e, \u00cele de France, is led by Executive Chef Liam Hopkins and Culinary Director Derek Dammann. Le French Line bar is managed by Andrew Whibley, Beverage Director of Le 9e, while Le 9e caf\u00e9 is managed by Dominique Jacques.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

The space includes the Grande Salle as well as the original Gold and Silver private dining rooms, making it an ideal setting for galas, private events, concerts, and various cultural gatherings.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t
