Our Heritage

During an Atlantic crossing on the famed ocean liner S.S. Île-de-France in the late 1920s, Lady Flora Eaton fell in love with the ship’s Art Deco interior.

Upon returning to Canada, she entrusted renowned French architect Jacques Carlu with the design of Eaton’s Montreal-based restaurant. The breathtaking Grande Salle draws its architectural inspiration from the luxury liner’s first class dining room.

Over the years, Le 9e has captured the hearts and minds of its clientele in an unprecedented way. For generations of Montrealers, Le 9e has been the venue of choice to enjoy a great meal and to celebrate special occasions.

For the design of Le 9e, she asked renowned architect Jacques Carlu to draw his inspiration from the French luxury liner’s first class dining room.
